Lottery money has enabled former welder Christopher Eggington to buy the Albert hotel in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, from Banks's Brewery. He used £550,000 of the £1m given to him by his mother out of her £7.2m lottery win.
Eli Lilly deal
Granada subsidiary Baxter & Platts has clinched a deal worth £1m in annual turnover with pharmaceuticals firm Eli Lilly. It covers the headquarters in Basingstoke, Hampshire, plus sites at Basingstoke and Windlesham, Surrey, formerly handled by Eurest, and the Liverpool factory previously served by Gardner Merchant.
Film folk in hotel
Charles and Sheila Dark, who formerly worked in the film industry, have bought the 23-bedroom Wynnstay Arms hotel at Machynlleth, Powys, for about £500,000. The agent was Robert Barry.
Shelley's sale
The hotel where the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley reportedly spent his honeymoon has been sold at auction for £125,000 to Richard Briden and Jane Becker from Essex. The owners plan to rename the Shelley's Cottage Hotel at Lynmouth, Devon, simply as Shelley's.
Pizzaland rent
The Portman Building Society is to take on Whitbread's Pizzaland restaurant in Basingstoke, Hampshire, on a rent of £60,500 a year. The agent was Davis Coffer Lyons.
