United distillers turns to compass
The business and industry division of Compass has beaten rivals Gardner Merchant and Sutcliffe in a three-way pitch to win what is believed to be Scotland's biggest multi-site industry contract.
The contract, with spirits company United Distillers, covers 16 sites previously split between a number of contractors, including Gardner Merchant and Sutcliffe. Compass previously ran none of the sites.
United Distillers held 18 month of talks with the three contractors in preparation for merging the sites under one contractor.
The deal is worth £5m a year in turnover and involves catering for more than 4,000 staff at various sites, including warehouses, distilleries and offices.
From next month Compass will begin introducing some of its New Famous Foods brands to the sites, including Pizza Hut and Upper Crust. It is also developing a brand specifically for United Distillers.
- Compass Group's Scandinavian Service Partner subsidiary is to acquire Norwegian group Stavanger Catering at the end of this month. Stavanger, which has an annual turnover of £10m, is best known for its off-shore contracts on North Sea platforms.
