Website for workers

I have been very interested in the recent letters regarding the work/life balance of those working in the catering industry (J Kerr, Caterer, 17 August](http://www.caterersearch.com/Articles/2006/08/17/308433/Why+are+FB+staff+treated+so+poorly+.htm), and J Rollinson, [Caterer, 24 August](http://www.caterersearch.com/Articles/2006/08/24/308603/Chefs+deserve+proper+worklife+balance+too.htm)).

In September 2004 Caterer published my letter on the same subject and many people e-mailed me giving their opinions about the way their own lives were affected by the often difficult conditions under which they worked within the hospitality and catering industry. Caterer published a résumé of the responses a couple of weeks later.

In response to the stories told by these people, I have created contactcaterers.com, which is a newspaper-style, online support platform for those in the industry. Please contact me through that site and let me know your views on how we can make a difference to the lives of those who love the industry but find their lives and those of their families, adversely affected by it.

The industry needs to ensure that those who work within it can also access the world outside the kitchen. As long as the industry goes on in the same way, nothing will change. The true cost of the meal on the plate will be at the expense of those producing it.

Something must be done! I have made a start with my online support platform. Please let me know what we can do together.
