Weekly hotel revpar drops by 12.3% in the provinces
Hotel revenue per available room (revpar) fell by 4.6% in London and by 12.3% in the provinces in the week ending 19 September 2009, according to figures from hospitality research company STR Global.
London revpar dropped to £112.65, down from £118.07 in the equivalent week of 2008. Occupancy grew by 2.6 percentage points, to 87.2%, while average room rate shrank by 7.5% to £129.15.
In the same week, regional revpar fell to £52.62 (2008: £60) as occupancy dropped by three percentage points (to 74.9%) and average room rate decreased by 8.8% to £70.22.
Edinburgh hotels outperformed the regional average, with revpar declining by just 4.4% to £74.79 (2008: £78.24). Occupancy rose by 0.9 percentage points to 88.8% while average room rate declined by 5.3% to £84.25.
Hotel revpar for the 28 days to 19 September declined by 7.4% in London (to £94.88) and by 10.6% in the provinces, to £48.40. In Edinburgh, revpar increased by 4.8% to £82.90.
