Wendy Bartlett picks up Outstanding Contribution Award at this year's Foodservice Cateys
Bartlett Mitchell executive chairman Wendy Bartlett and Brigade founder Simon Boyle were the big winners at the Foodservice Cateys 2018, held in partnership with Seafood Week, which took place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
Recognised for her profile as an entrepreneur, role model, ambassador and determined operator, Bartlett received the Outstanding Contribution Award for her commitment to the industry and reputation for challenging the status quo.
Bartlett said: "Thank you very much, I'm never quite sure if these awards mean I'm getting old but I really appreciate it and thanks to my team because without them there's no Bartlett Mitchell."
Boyle scooped the Extra Mile award for founding Brigade restaurant in London, which is managed by BaxterStorey, a social enterprise that helps homeless adults break the cycle of poverty by delivering practical hospitality training.
It turned out to be a successful night for BaxterStorey, who also won the coveted accolade of Business and Industry Caterer of the Year, while Greg Bramwell was named Regional Manager of the Year. Its sister business Searcys at the Gherkin also won Front of House Team of the Year (public site).
Presenting the Outstanding Achievement Award to Wendy Bartlett, The Caterer deputy editor James Stagg told an audience of 550 guests: "Operators speak about Wendy as being someone who is totally trustworthy, hardworking and who constantly challenges the status quo.
"Wendy is an inspiration, not only to her own team, but also the wider industry who respect her for her honesty, integrity and, above all, sense of fun."
Simon Boyle was recognised as someone who has stood out as being generous of spirit ever since volunteering in Sri Lanka following the devastating 2004 tsumani.
Stagg added: "Boyle is an award-winning chef, author and entrepreneur who has used food as a stimulus for social change and, by doing so, has transformed the lives of its beneficiaries."
