Wetherspoon looks to beat wine tasting world record
JD Wetherspoon is looking to host the world's largest wine tasting in May and get itself into the Guinness Book of World Records.
The synchronised wine tasting will take place in Wetherspoon pubs at 6pm on Wednesday 21 May when customers will be offered a free glass of Fetzer Coldwater Creek wine.
To beat the current record Wetherspoon will have to get more than 5,100 tasters to drink its wine of choice. The stunt kicks off Wetherspoon's 19 day wine festival, which runs until 2 June, with six guest wines being added to its current wine list.
Themed drinks festivals' have proved a boon for the high-street operator which said on Tuesday that its recent nationwide real ale festival (27 March to 14 April) had increased beer sales by 7% for the period with 2.5 million pints passed over the bar.
