Wetherspoon to open Velvet Coaster pub in Blackpool

Pub, bar and hotels group JD Wetherspoon is to open a new pub named the Velvet Coaster in Blackpool on 12 May.

The growing company has invested £4m in the property, which is on the site of the former Lucky Star amusement arcade. Spread across three floors, it will feature three bars, a ground floor level beer garden, a balcony terrace on the first floor, and a roof garden. The property will employ 160 staff.

Wetherspoon is also set to open the Ritz pub in Wallsend, North Tyneside, on the same date, while other imminent openings include the North Western in Liverpool, the Steel Foundry in Sheffield, and the Mossy Well in Muswell Hill.

The group, which runs more than 900 pubs, is currently on a significant expansion drive with plans to open 250 more sites within the next five years.
