What jobs can I do after my MBA in International Business?

Question

I am a professional with a thorough operations background. I have six years' work experience in five-star hotels. My previous job was restaurant manager in a prestigious Marriott International hotel, having joined at pre-opening stage.

I realised that the higher up the career ladder I climbed, the more the intellectual requirement. Therefore I decided to go back to school, partly for this reason and partly to give myself a well-earned break from work. I am currently doing an MBA in International Business in New Zealand.

If I decide to go back to the hospitality industry after my course, what positions can I look at with this background? I really like the industry and would not mind continuing in it.

I am also open to changing industries and do not mind taking up customer service or sales and marketing. However, I need to know if there are any other fields that I could go into besides these.

You have a very good operational background in both hotels and restaurants, and this means you obviously have good knowledge of the hospitality industry. After your MBA, you could do pretty much anything you want to and perhaps transfer your skills into another sector. The jobs available within the hospitality, leisure and travel industries are vast, so it is a bit difficult to suggest job roles without having met you or without knowing what you like and dislike, and, most of all, where you see yourself going in future years. If you send us your address I will be able to send you some careers and training guides to give you more of an insight into different roles within the hospitality industry to help you with your choice. As for careers in other industries, you should talk to your lecturers to see what they recommend.
