What starting salary should I ask for?

Question

I am 22 years old and have just graduated from university with an honours degree in hotel management.

I am about to apply for the position of deputy head housekeeper for a hotel in the South of England (not London). The hotel has a four-star rating and is part of a large chain.

I feel the hotel is messing me about with the rate of pay. When I go for an interview I would like to know what rate of pay I should be able to ask for.

I have about one-and-a-half years' work experience in the hotel and a large percentage of this time has been spent in the housekeeping department.

It is hard to give you a simple black-and-white answer as there is quite a range of salaries offered for this kind of role. However, there are certain factors which would affect the level of salary offered. These are: - - Á¢Â€Â" the location - Á¢Â€Â" your experience in housekeeping whilst at university. Did you have any supervisory or management responsibility? Given all these variables, I would suggest a salary range between Á‚£13,000 and Á‚£16,000.
