Why do I need to wear a uniform?

Question

Hello experts! I am an overseas student, doing a hospitality course at college. I have a few questions about the position of receptionist.

Why does a receptionist need to wear a uniform in a work placement? What kind of uniform will the hotel provide?

In any front-of-house position, whether it is in a hotel or a contract catering environment, it is essential that a uniform is worn because the wearer is representing the company. The reception is usually the first point of contact for clients, and so the staff need to make a good impression. A smart uniform will complement the skills you have learned in order to offer the best service to your clients. All hotels provide a uniform, and this is standard throughout the industry. It is your job to ensure that the uniform is kept in good condition.
