Net profit at US-based fast-food chain Jack in the Box increased by 15% to $24.2m (£15.5m) in the three months to 7 July. Turnover increased by 6.1% to $461m (£295m).
Luxury in Cairo
Switzerland-based Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has opened a five-star, 214-bedroom hotel in Cairo, Egypt. The hotel, near the pyramids of Giza, has a fitness centre with three swimming pools. Mövenpick has 43 hotels in 11 countries.
Cold comfort in USA
Americans are turning to comfort food after the events of 11 September and the country's continuing economic troubles, according to a panel of five experts from some of the USA's leading restaurants, hotels, clubs and culinary schools.
The sky's the limit
Lufthansa's catering unit, LSG Sky Chefs, is buying a majority stake in Malaysian Airlines' catering company. The group will form a new company to acquire 70% of MAS Catering. The deal, which will cost LSG about $23m (£15m), is expected to be completed this year.
Meristar sell-off
US-based Meristar Hospitality Corporation has sold three of its hotels to an unnamed buyer, to reduce debt. The 293-bedroom Hilton Houston Southwest in Texas, the 139-bedroom Ramada Inn in Mahwah, New Jersey, and the 124-bedroom Four Points by Sheraton Mt Arlington, also in New Jersey, were sold for an undisclosed figure. Meristar owns 109 hotels in 27 states across the USA.
