Hyatt International says its 555-room Grand Hyatt Shanghai, an88-storey skyscraper that stands 1,380ft above street level and is due to open on 8 August 1998, will be the tallest hotel in the world.

Burger King sale?

Burger King is in talks with McDonald's over the possible sale of half of its 16 company-owned restaurants in France. Burger King announced in July that it wanted to concentrate in Europe on the UK, Germany and Spain.

Kempinski expands

Kempinski Hotels & Resorts has taken over the management of Hotel International Zografski in Sofia, Bulgaria, and has a contract to manage Hotel Elephant in Weimar, Germany, from 1 January 1998.

Spanish success

Spanish hotel chain Sol Melia announced a 35.5% increase in net profits to 1,873m pesetas (£7.5m) in the first half of 1997. The group is continuing to grow and added 11 managed and four franchised hotels in the first six months of 1997.
