A london restaurant that lost its newly appointed head chef, and then had its relaunch date delayed, finally opened for business this week.

Following extensive refurbishment, the former Italian Kitchen in Tavistock Street opened on Wednesday (October 21) as Maggiore’s Classic Italian Kitchen.

Morris Loukal, sous chef prior to the refurbishment, will be head chef.

In July, Nick Melmoth-Coombes, formerly of Antonio Carluccio’s Neal Street restaurant in London, was recruited as head chef.

However, the following month he and Paul Corrett, chief executive of Showtime Restaurants, owner of Maggiore’s, announced he would not be cooking there (Caterer, 27 August, page 16).
