Senderens is tired of stars

Lucas Carton, the three-Michelin-starred Paris restaurant that shunned its star status, will reopen on 19 September as a brasserie.

Chef Alain Senderens took the decision to close in May (see Caterer, 26 May), claiming he was tired of the pressure of being one of France's 26 three-star venues.

The brasserie will not have an entry in the famous red guidebook when it opens.

"I want to do something more contemporary and without the unnecessary luxury of three-star food," Senderens said.

But a spokesman for Michelin said the stars were not his to give back and inspectors plan to visit Senderens' new venture.
