A Grade I-listed village inn in Kent that is owned by the National Trust has been put on the market for the first time in 42 years.
Nigel Lucas has owned the lease on the Castle Inn at Chiddingstone, Kent, since he left catering college in 1964.
The property was built in 1420 and retains a number of period features such as beamed ceilings, working log burners in exposed brick fireplaces and quarry tiled floors.
It offers a lounge bar, a public bar, a 35-seat restaurant and an additional 20 seats in the Streatfield Room private dining area.
Another 170 seats are available in the summer on the paved terrace in the extensive rear gardens.
The business achieves net sales of around £512,000 a year which are split almost equally between food and wet sales.
Davey & Co is seeking offers of around £250,000 for the freehold.
