Europe’s first five-star hotel for dogs is set to be built in the Netherlands.
Ad van der Valk, a member of the Dutch van der Valk hotel-owner dynasty, has announced plans for a dog hotel to be modelled on existing hotels for dogs in the US.
The luxury hotel to be erected in Gilze-Rijn will offer 200sq m villas for dogs, including floor-heating, air-conditioning, TV and leather beds.
Dogs will enjoy themselves on a lawn with numerous sandpits, tunnels and bridges, and hotel employees will play and exercise with the canine guests.
For overweight dogs, a special diet will be offered.
After having seen such dog hotels in the USA, van der Valk ordered a market study that showed that there was enough demand in the Netherlands.
The £2.5m project is being tackled together with the Agriculture University in Den Bosch and will have seven full-time employees.
