RSPCA names restaurant and pub finalists for its Good Business Awards
Written by:

Former Caterer Adopted Business Alimentum in Cambridge has been named as a finalist in the restaurant category of the RSPCA Good Business Awards, which recognise ethical business approaches to animal welfare.
Sponsored by Caterer and Hotelkeeper, the restaurant award rewards operators that have set out to use suppliers that maintain high animal welfare, covering living conditions, transport, slaughter methods, labelling or farm inspections.

Alimentum is one of four short-listed restaurants and was recognised for its commitment to animal welfare, which is at the heart of the operation.

Other finalists were: McDonald’s Restaurants for its use of free-range eggs across its portfolio; Ode in Devon for its ‘no foie gras and veal’ policy; and Cygnet Restaurant/Swan Inn in Berkshire for its knowledgeable staff.

The RSCPA has this year also introduced a pub category and finalists include: the Duke of Cambridge in London for its ongoing commitment to animal welfare and local sourcing; the Feathers Inn in Northumberland for its community involvement; the Norway Inn in Cornwall for its commitment to local sourcing; and the Swan Inn in Berkshire for continued improvements to animal welfare.

David Bowles, head of external affairs for the RSPCA said: “The economic downturn doesn’t seem to have affected ethical consumerism and there is still a real demand for cruelty-free produce. It is great to see restaurants, regardless of their size, striving to implement exceptional welfare standards.”

The RSPCA Good Business Awards ceremony will be held at One Marylebone in London on 7 October.
