Only pub in North Devon village reopens under new owners
The Old Union Inn at Stibb Cross in North Devon has been bought by local villagers Nigel and Sue Harris.
The former Enterprise Inns tied house, which is the only pub in the village near Torrington, had been closed. It occupies a corner plot in the centre of Stibb Cross.
The Harris', added by Nigel's daughters Tracey and Beverley, plan to return it to the heart of the community with a new bar snack menu, Sunday roasts and plans to open a village shop within the detached property.
The building, which came with extensive, five-bedroom owners' accommodation on the second storey, has been totally refurbished.
The refurbished trading areas include a bar to seat 60 customers, a 12-seat dining area and a pool room. The landscaped trade garden has also been upgraded to provide outside seating with a smoking shelter and the parking area revamped to hold 25 vehicles.
Property agent Stonesmith of Exeter sold the freehold off an asking price of £275,000.
