Troubled chef Jean Christophe Novelli will join ITV’s This Morning as a showbiz reporter as the popular daytime show is revamped for its 21st series.

The casting will be welcome news for the TV chef after a difficult year. A case was brought against Novelli by a former contractor over a dispute concerning payment, but was thrown out by the judge in August. Two of his pubs ceased trading in February this year, citing financial difficulties. In the same month he was refused an overdraft.

The new series of This Morning, beginning on 1 September, will also feature new faces in the form of fellow chef Gino D’Acampo as well as Peter Andre, Changing Rooms presenter Linda Barker and garden designer Diarmuid Gavin.

The revamp sees Fern Britton controversially replaced by young star Holly Willoughby, who will make her debut on 14 September.
