Gordon Ramsay's Boxwood Café to close in April

Gordon Ramsay Holdings (GRH) is to close its Boxwood Café at London's Berkeley Hotel next April.

The owner of the five-star hotel in Knightsbridge, Maybourne Group, confirmed today that GRH's contract for the 120-seat restaurant will not be renewed next year.

Opened in May 2003, Boxwoood Café became known for its New York-style café dining with Stuart Gillies as head chef. GRH said it now plans to relocate the restaurant to new premises in London.

"We have been looking for some time for the perfect site for Boxwood after the expiry of its present lease and have hopefully found somewhere that combines to perfection the two essential ingredients of location and space," said Gillies.

Boxwood Café at the Berkeley is the third Gordon Ramsay restaurant to be dropped by the Maybourne Group following the closure of Angela Hartnett'sMarcus Wareing at the Berkeley - in 2008.

This now leaves just one remaining joint venture between the Maybourne Group and GRH, Gordon Ramsay at Claridges, the tenure of which is due for renewal at the end of 2010.
