Alain Ducasse and Joel Robuchon lead initiative to promote French cuisine

A dozen of France's most renowned chefs, led by Alain Ducasse and Joël Robuchon, have joined forces to set up ‘Cuisine de France,' an initiative designed to increase the standing of French cuisine in the world.

"There's a prejudicial gap between the reality of French cuisine and its image around the world, where it is portrayed as aging, of the past and without inventiveness," said Robuchon at the official launch of ‘Cuisine de France' which took place at the Sirest catering trade show in Paris on Monday (8 March).

Ducasse claimed that the media had crowned Spain and Italy as the world leaders in cuisine, adding: "We need to do better in terms of communication". He said the initiative was a defence of good quality French cuisine as a whole, not just haute gastronomie.

Another chef backing the initiative is Guy Savoy, who claimed French cuisine is the basis of world gastronomy "but because this is second nature to us we no longer pay attention to it."

The other chefs associated in ‘Cuisine de France' are Michel Guérard, Michel Trois-Gros, Yannick Alleno, Gilles Goujon, Michel Haeberlin, Gérald Passédat, Didier Elena, Laurent Petit, Régis Marcon and Pierre Gagnaire.

Details of the initiative's communication strategy are expected to be finalised later this year.
