Glasgow's Grand Central hotel recruiting 150 staff before £20m relaunch
The 186-bedroom former Central hotel in Glasgow will create 150 new jobs when it re-launches following a £20m refurbishment in September.
Reopening as the four-star Grand Central hotel, the Principal Hayley-owned property is now recruiting for a mix of full- and part-time positions in conference and banqueting, reservations, front-of-house, reception, kitchen, events, finance and maintenance.
Principal Hayley bought the hotel for around £2m in June 2009 after the property, previously owned by the Real Hotel Group, went into administration.
The refurbishment, designed by Charles Leon Associates, has involved stripping the hotel back to basics and uncovering many of its original features including marble floors and intricate cornicing.
Thirty extra bedrooms are being added to the property, which was the venue from which the world's first long-distance television pictures were transmitted in 1927 by John Logie Baird. It will also include 21 meeting rooms including the Grand Room of Glasgow with a capacity for 500 guests, a Champagne bar, restaurant and deli.
