London Restaurant Festival video: Jason Atherton on Pollen Street Pop-Up
Leading culinary talent Jason Atherton has just completed two-nights' service in his Pollen Street Pop-Up restaurant, created on Binney Street, just off Oxford Street, as part of this year's London Restaurant Festival.
"As I am not opening my new restaurant until January 2011, I really want to use my time to put something back into London and so I had this idea to do a pop-up restaurant and with the help and generosity of The London Restaurant Festival, Grosvenor, Restaurant Associates, PKL, Enotria wines and others, who are all generously giving their time, expertise and equipment, its all came together and I couldn't be more delighted"," said Atherton.
Inhabiting a previously empty site, the restaurant interior and kitchen was specially built for two evenings only, and with only 40 places available for each evening, selling out within one day.
Atherton, who left Maze restaurant in May, gave a taste of things to come at his new restaurant Pollen Street Social on Pollen Street, Mayfair, which is due to open in January 2011. Guests enjoyed exclusive preview dishes of Orkney langoustine, lemon peel puree, oyster leaf and brandy head dressing and 35-day-aged Speyside beef fillet and braised cheek with organic carrots, garlic snails and garlic and parsley porridge.
All the proceeds from the nights will be donated to Street Smart, the official charity of London Restaurant Festival 2010. The restaurant has now been stripped out.
