Hilton forms bid alliance

Hilton Group is joining forces with USA-based Strategic Hotel Capital and Spanish group Sol Meliá to bid for Granada’s £3.5b hotel estate. They have put £4.5b into an investment fund, with Hilton injecting £500m, Strategic Hotel Capital £2b and Sol Meliá £2b. – Mail on Sunday, 24 December

Christmas cheer for Scots hotels

Christmas trade this year is expected to bring in an extra £21m for the Scottish hospitality and tourism industry. Glasgow hoteliers have reported a 6.5% surge in bookings compared with 1999 and a 25% increase in the number of Christmas parties. – The Scotsman, 27 December

Probus plans hotel move

Commercial property company Probus Estates is preparing to turn itself into a casino and hotels operator and has appointed Paola De Pol, the former general general manager of the George V hotel in Paris, as chief executive. – Sunday Telegraph, 24 December

All Bar One set for Germany

Bass is planning to take its All Bar One chain of female-friendly bars into Germany before the end of 2001. – Sunday Telegraph, 24 December
