Compass and Granada merge their education and healthcare brands

Contract caterer Compass is ditching the Chartwells, Fairfield and Bateman brand names from its education and healthcare divisions following the merger with Granada last year.

Chartwells, which was Compass’s brand for catering in schools and colleges, is to join with Granada’s Fairfield and Sutcliffe Collegiate Services under the name Scolarest.

However, the Chartwells brand name will remain where it is being used for local education authority multi-site contracts.

Operational management within Scolarest will be shared between three managing directors.

Steven Watts is managing director of Scolarest contracts in single-site state secondary schools that look after their own catering budgets.

Mike Bond is managing director of education contracts in independent schools, colleges and universities.

Mike Sparrow becomes managing director of government services, which will include local authority multi-site contracts.

In healthcare, the former Sutcliffe brand name Bateman is being merged with Granada Healthcare Services under the name Medirest. Chris Gray has been appointed managing director .
