Delia Smith retires as Norwich City catering boss

Delia Smith has announced she is to relinquish her role as head of Delia's Canary Catering at Norwich City Football Club.

The move follows Smith's 70th birthday earlier this year and is a bid to "reduce her workload".

Smith said: "I have worked with a fantastic team who have supported my vision from day one and its success is a tribute to them. It is now time for a fresh approach and a younger team who, I am confident, will take the business even further."

The catering company, which she set up in 1997 at the Carrow Road site as a trading arm of the football club, provides match-day food as well as event catering and running Delia's Restaurant and Bar and the Yellows American Bar and Grill. All menus were created from Smith's published recipes.

According to the statement, the business had made a "significant financial contribution" to the club's coffers, securing record profits this year.

It is not yet known if the business will be rebranded although Smith and her husband, Michael Wynn Jones, will remain involved as joint majority shareholders at Norwich City.
