Ethical bottled water supplier Belu – which pledges that all its profits go to clean water projects – is claiming a UK first with the launch of its new rPET bottle which is made from 50% recycled plastic.
The new design – which is itself recyclable – contains the highest level of recycled plastic in the UK bottled water market, says Belu. It provides a 46% carbon saving over PET equivalents, conserving both energy and oil consumption while reducing the volume of plastics that end up in landfill.
Consumer research by Belu found that 95% of people believed plastic water bottles should be made from recycled materials.
The new bottle, developed in partnership with plastics expert Nextek, is offered in the 500ml size that is most popular in the on-the-go market. Early customers include wholesaler Booker Cash & Carry.
“This launch is giving us the opportunity to go mainstream for the first time in Belu’s history,” said Belu managing director Karen Lynch. “It’s hugely exciting to see the response from the trade, and we hope that our restaurant clients follow suit for the take-away market.”
Belu’s list of restaurant customers includes Jamie Oliver, Tragus and D&D London.
