Hook Norton profits increase by a third

Brewer and pub company Hook Norton has seen its pre-tax profits increase by one third.

Pre-tax profit stood at £515,467 in the year leading up to 30 September, 2011, compared to £395,614 for the same period the previous year.

Turnover in 2011 stayed flat at £7.44m, a rise of just under £4,000 compared to the year before.

The company said that its tenanted pub estate, which consists of about 45 pubs, required "much work" throughout the year. It sold one pub which was no longer considered to be viable, and did not acquire any new sites.

Meanwhile, Hook Norton hired a joint managing director in the final quarter of the year to work alongside James Clarke. Adrian Staley came in to oversee the commercial teams.

On the brewing side of the business, the company changed its distribution fleet to contract hire and installed a flexible-hours initiative for staff. The firm also plans to invest in improvements to its cask-racking line.
