Birmingham's Green Restaurant Award winners announced
Birmingham's most environmentally-conscious restaurants were honoured at the city's third annual Green Restaurant Awards, with ChangeKitchen, Glynn Purnell's Michelin-starred Purnell's and Moor Hall hotel among the winners.
Organised by the Birmingham Environmental Partnership and sponsored by Veolia Environmental Services and Birmingham City Council, the awards, which took place last week, saw prizes presented across four categories, along with an overall winner.
The ChangeKitchen vegetarian catering company won the top award of Green Restaurant of the Year after judges scored it highly in all categories.
Cllr Timothy Huxtable, chairman of the Birmingham Environmental Partnership, said: "We have a proud reputation for the quality of food produced by Birmingham's eating establishments, so I am delighted they are backing this up by taking a responsible approach to managing the earth's precious resources.
"The competition for these awards gets tougher each year - it shows that our restaurants and food producers do care about the issue of sustainability. "Restaurants are a significant user of resources, from energy to food, so anything they can do to make the city more sustainable will have a big effect on an overall basis. I offer my congratulations to everyone who took part in this year's awards."
