Cavendish opens UK’s first edible chocolate room – for one night

Easter arrived early for two competition winners checking into a unique bedroom at London’s Cavendish hotel on Monday.

With the help of students from Westminster Kingsway College, the four-star, 230-bedroom hotel created what is believed to be the UK’s first edible chocolate hotel room.

Almost 100kg of Callebaut chocolate has been used to create everything from a vase of flowers and pair of slippers to toothbrush and paste, as well as a life-sized painting. There is also, of course, also a giant Easter egg.

Neil Braude, hotel manager at the Cavendish, said: “What could be more fun than waking up feeling a bit peckish and being able to munch your way through the do not disturb sign? Or taking a nibble out of the flowers?

“Easter’s not Easter without chocolate and we wanted to create an eggstra special Easter treat for chocolate lovers. The room will choc-up for one night only, melting away in the morning.”

Simon Woods, chef-lecturer at Westminster Kingsway College, added: “With chocolate slippers, a life-sized painting and giant Easter sculpture, to name only a few of the items, guests will have the pick of the room to unwrap and eat up before they check out.”

Despite the unseasonably warm weather, it is hoped the chocolate will not melt by keeping the room at a constant 16°C. The guests won the opportunity to choc-out in a competition run by Time Out.
