Jamie Oliver is to open a Union Jacks restaurant in London’s Covent Garden after taking over a site in the historic Market Building.
Set to open in July, the new restaurant will occupy 3,500 sq ft, over two floors in the North Hall of the Market Building. It will comprise a ground floor dining room with an open kitchen for up to 108 diners, as well as lower level space for up to 50.
Oliver launched the British-influenced restaurant group at the Central St Giles development in London’s West End last November. After a second site in Chiswick next month, a third in Winchester, Hampshire, and a fifth at Bluewater in Kent, the Covent Garden restaurant will be the chain’s fifth branch.
Oliver runs Union Jacks with US chef Chris Bianco. The menu is centred on flatbreads and wood-fired cooking methods, with the majority of ingredients sourced from within Britain.
Commenting on Jamie’s Union Jacks Covent Garden, Oliver said: “The Piazza at Covent Garden is one of the most buzzing parts of the city, with Londoners and tourists visiting all day and night. So this Union Jacks needs to be special and it will be – the restaurant will look fantastic.”
