Heston Blumenthal, Cobra beer and Moët & Chandon Champagne have been chosen as suppliers for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee picnic, to be held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace on 4 June.

The picnic will cater for the 12,000 people attending the Diamond Jubilee Concert that evening.

Cobra draught beer will be served to guests, accompanying hampers provided by Heston Blumenthal and Waitrose, bottles of water from Hildon, and Moët & Chandon Champagne.

Reacting to the announcement, Lord Bilimoria, founder and chairman of Cobra Beer, a joint-venture with Molson Coors, said: “It is a matter of great pride for all of us at Cobra to be the supplier of beer for The Queen’s Jubilee picnic and concert. Cobra has existed for just over one third of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, and in that time it has become a household name.

“Given Cobra’s Indian heritage, we feel our presence at these celebrations also serves to represent the Commonwealth, an institution which we know Her Majesty values greatly.

“We know that this will bring a great deal of pride not just to the UK’s 2.5 million-strong Asian community, but also to the 1.2 billion people in India and the 30 million people of Indian origin worldwide.

Despite its Indian heritage, Cobra in the UK is brewed in Burton-upon-Trent, using 100% British barley.
