San Carlo restaurant group to invest £700,000 at its flagship venue in Manchester
Italian restaurant group San Carlo has announced plans to invest £700,000 at its flagship venue in Manchester's King Street West.
The cash injection will be used to create new facilities and refurbish existing ones at the restaurant.
The lower ground floor will be developed to include new pâtisserie and ice-cream making facilities, which will service group restaurants in the North. It will also house the relocated customer toilets.
A new private dining room will be created and the kitchen floor replaced, while the revamp will enable the restaurant to accommodate an extra 40 covers in the main dining room.
Commenting on the investment at San Carlo Manchester, group managing director Marcello Distefano said the past seven years had been a great success for the restaurant.
"It very quickly became our flagship in both turnover and size and in due course has taken quite a battering. We decided it needed to be freshened up; we also wanted to create new space by developing the basement of the restaurant," he explained.
"At last this will allow us to create a private dining room upstairs, something that has been requested time and again over the years. Moving our ancillary areas downstairs means we can also slightly increase the capacity of the dining room. As San Carlo is full every night this is a great added bonus."
News of the investment comes amidst a period of expansion for the group. San Carlo opened its latest venture, Fumo in Birmingham, last month and it is currently in the final stages of preparing to open its second London venue, Cicchetti, later this month.
