InterContinental London Westminster, which opens in November, has entered a partnership with charity Soldier On!, finding employment opportunities for experienced British war veterans within its hotel, bar and restaurant.

The 256-bedroom hotel, which is the first InterContinental hotel to open in London for more than 35 years, will create 180 new jobs.

The partnership with Soldier On! will see the hotel recruit former members of the Armed Forces, some of whom may have sustained injuries serving their country and have been discharged on medical grounds.

The InterContinental London Westminster will consider suitable candidates from Soldier On! for both permanent and temporary careers, as well as work experience, coaching and mentoring.

Andrew Coney, general manager of the InterContinental London Westminster, commented: “We are extremely proud to be partnering with Soldier On!; the focus and drive of experienced veterans will be a huge asset to our team, and we too will benefit from the skills and qualifications they’ve acquired through years of service. We anticipate that they will set a fine example in our industry.”

Nicholas Harrison, founder and managing director of Soldier On!, added: “We are delighted to be partnering with InterContinental London Westminster to try to find employment for our candidates. We do believe that former service personnel have absolutely the right characteristics and operational experience that is needed to run a successful hotel and are thrilled to be working with InterContinental Westminster as they recruit for what looks to be a fantastic hotel.”
