Doncaster hotel undergoes £5m revamp to attract thoroughbred audience

A Doncaster hotel has undergone a £5m face-lift to elevate its star status and take advantage of trade from the nearby racecourse.

The 89-bedroom art deco-styled Earl of Doncaster has been completely renovated and extended, leading to its promotion to four-star status.

Its reopening is in time to take advantage of the Doncaster bloodstock sales, which take place on 29 and 30 August.

"We're situated so near to the Doncaster bloodstock sales that, over the years, we've often had guests stay with us who are attending the Premier Sales event," explained hotel manager Fraser Wolstencroft.

"So with our new four-star status and Silver Award for service, we're looking forward to welcoming them back, as well as opening our doors to new residents, so that they can enjoy some art deco decadence and luxury after the sales have shut for the day."

The hotel has taken on all the interior design itself, while all rooms and public areas in the hotel now have free Wi-Fi.

Wolstencroft added: "We felt it important that not only do we offer free Wi-Fi for guests on business, but also business facilities such as meeting and conference rooms. We have a range of rooms for small meetings, and can cater for large conferences, too. There's also the Café Concerto Bar and Restaurant for more informal get-togethers."
