Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall to expand River Cottage brand to Bristol and Winchester

Celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is expanding his River Cottage brand, with new sites in Bristol and Winchester.

Bristol's new River Cottage Canteen and Deli will open early next year comprising a 4,000sq ft site formerly the church of St. John the Evangelist.

Meanwhile the River Cottage outpost in Winchester will be housed in the three-floor Abbey Mill in the city centre, which was last used as council offices.

The two new openings will take the number of River Cottage Canteen and Deli outlets to four. In addition to its headquarters at Axminster in Devon, River Cottage also opened a site in the Brewhouse at Plymouth's Royal William Yard development last year.

George Waite, associate director at Insight Retail Consulting, which secured the sites for River Cottage, said: "River Cottage's reputation for locally sourced and sustainable food is second to none and these two openings will reinforce the food renaissance which is currently underway in Bristol and Winchester.

"I am confident that both canteens will be welcome additions to each city's food scene for both customers and local producers alike."
