Sojourn Hotels opens boutique Vanbrugh House hotel in Oxford

The opening of the new 22-bedroom Vanbrugh House hotel in Oxford marks a new direction for its owner Sojourn Hotels.

Set in an 18th century town house, the luxury, boutique hotel, which has undergone a £1.5m renovation, will be the first independently operated hotel alongside Sojourn's collection of branded properties.

Sojourn's existing hotels are all operated under brands belonging to InterContinental Hotels - including four Holiday Inn Express properties, the Holiday Inn London Wembley and the Hotel Indigo in Edinburgh.

Vanbrugh House - which is a minor work of the architect John Vanbrugh, designer of Blenheim Palace - features four suites, two of which have their own city garden and terrace area. Light lunches, afternoon teas and pre-dinner drinks are served in the Drawing Room, while the Vanbrugh Vaults, where remains of the original city walls can be seen, is home to the hotel's restaurant.

Colin Rice of Sojourn Hotels said: "We want all our guests to enjoy the very best of British hospitality in the heart of one of the world's most famous cities."
