Dormy House hotel

The four-star, 43-bedroom hotel, near Broadway - set in a converted 17th century farmhouse - is due to close in mid-March for the first phase of improvements, which will involve the £5m refurbishment and upgrading of its public areas and bedrooms. After re-opening in mid-summer, work will continue on the development of House Spa, which is due to open in early 2014.

Designed by Sparcstudio, House Spa will include an infinity pool, treatment rooms, fitness gym, dining area and terrace garden. It will be available both to hotel guests and as a luxury day spa and health club for residents.

Award-winning spa consultant Neil Howard, whose previous work has included the spa at London's Dorchester hotel, will oversee the project.

Hotel general manager David Field said: "We aim to position The Dormy among the leading hotels in the UK and we see the creation of a luxury spa as a vital part of that.

"The Dormy is already a household name and is synonymous with a quality dining and hotel experience. However, we believe that adding a truly exquisite spa will place it at the very top of the UK hospitality sector."

Dormy House is part of the Farncombe group, which has been owned by the Philip-SÁ¸rensen family since 1977, which includes meeting venue Cotswold Conference Centre and Farncombe Courses, offering residential learning and activity breaks, all on the 320-acre Farncombe Estate.

The hotel is a member of Pride of Britain and Cotswolds Finest Hotels.
