The search is on for a new managing director of Best Western GB - the largest collection of independent hotels in the UK.

Keith Pope will be retiring from the role on 5 July and yesterday an advertisement appeared in The Sunday Times for his replacement, who will oversee 277 hotels branded as Best Western, including seven tagged at Premier and 29 as Plus properties.

The advertisement said that the new managing director needs to have “bags of energy” and be “a visionary, forward thinking personality full of bright ideas, someone with a track record of doing things differently”.

He or she should also have “the gravitas to inspire confidence across the group” and “be technically savvy”.

Closing date for applications is Monday 21 January.

Pope joined Best Western in 1997 and has been managing director for the past four years.
