The four-AA-red star, 31-bedroom Swinton Park hotel, near Marsham, North Yorkshire, hopes to expand with the opening of a new spa, health club and brasserie.

Planning permission is being sought from Harrogate Borough Council for the development which will take place in former workshops and garden building, which are currently derelict within the hotel’s 200 acre estate.

The planned spa and health club, which will include an 18m swimming pool, wellness suite, gym and fitness studio, treatment rooms and a garden terrace, will be open to hotel guests, day visitors and club members. Once open, it will provide 20 new full-time jobs.

Felicity Cunliffe-Lister, owner of Swinton Park, said the spa will help the hotel to maintain its position as a market leader. “The planned development will enable us to restore the redundant buildings, improve access to the parkland for visitors and help establish the Swinton Estate as a destination for sustainable tourism activities such as fishing, walking, falconry and riding; not forgetting the invaluable jobs that would be created to boost the local economy.”

Swinton Park was recognised last week at the VisitEngland Awards, when Samuel’s restaurant was awarded a gold accolade for its culinary excellence.
