British Country Inns put seven of its 24 pubs up for sale

Pub firm British Country Inns has put seven of its 24 sites up for sale.

The sale of the smaller pubs, in Wales, the South West and East Anglia, will enable the business to concentrate on its larger, more profitable businesses.

The disposal of the seven pubs, all of which are available freehold, is being handled jointly by agents Christie + Co, Gully Howard , Fleurets and Sidney Phillips.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Tim Udell of British Country Inns said: "We're delighted to be working with highly respected agents on this instruction. Trading well in their rural locations, I'm certain these freehold pubs will generate significant interest - either from national or regional pub companies looking to expand their portfolios or from entrepreneurs looking to take their first steps into the freehold pub sector.

"The freehold sector is proving ever more popular, with the numbers of freehold pubs rapidly catching their counterparts in the managed house sector. Their popularity is also evidenced by the increasing prices achieved for sales in this sector over the past 12 months."

The pubs are:

Wales and the South West:

•Llangeinor Arms, near Bridgend - guide price £395,000
•George Inn, near Ilminster, Somerset - guide price £425,000
•Old barn Owl, Langport, Somerset - guide price £360,000

Isle of Wight

•Ponda Rosa, Ryde, Isle of Wight - guide price £595,000

East Anglia

•The Lion, Leavenheath, near Colchester, Essex - guide price £400,000
•Three Horseshoes, Cockfield, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk - guide price £325,000
