Celtic Manor Resort plans new International Convention Centre

Plans for a new Wales International Convention Centre have been confirmed by five-star Newport resort Celtic Manor.

The convention centre will be fully integrated into the resort's existing conference facilities, making it the largest in Wales and South-West England. It is expected to include a new auditorium and exhibition hall large enough to accommodate 4,000 delegates, and its planning and design have been funded by the Welsh Government.

The plans come amid Celtic Manor Resort's aim to expand on its status as a conference hotel, and bring new visitors to Wales. It is hoped that the centre will now be able to attract larger events such as political party summits and company conferences. It will also provide employment opportunities for the local area, as well as boosting businesses and other hotels.

It is hoped that a successful application for planning consent will come through next year, as Celtic Manor Resort chairman Sir Terry Matthews and Minister for Economy Edwina Hart have agreed to a match funding scheme.

With more than 400 rooms, the high-end resort is clearly seeking to expand its appeal, having recently announced plans to build 10 new luxury holiday lodges, as well as continuing its development of existing apartments and rooms.
