Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley to close for renovations

Chef Marcus Wareing is to temporarily close his two-Michelin-starred restaurant at the Berkeley hotel in London's Knightsbridge on 18 January, ahead of renovations.

The move comes after the chef, who has been running the restaurant at the hotel for a decade, secured another 10-year deal with the Maybourne Hotel Group.

In March 2014 the doors will re-open, and Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley will be rebranded and relaunched simply as Marcus.

Wareing said: "After 10 years here I am delighted to continue my relationship with Maybourne Hotel Group and over the next 10 years I want to do it better than I ever have before.

"I believe there has been a gradual, but genuine evolution in what the customer is looking for in today's fine dining offering and we are now moving away from the more formal service scenarios. Marcus will cater to this shift in consumer expectations whilst retaining our existing style of food. The luxury dining experience will be executed in a more inviting, engaging and experiential way. While we continue to innovate in the kitchen, our customers will receive a new, truly superlative dining experience."

Wareing is expected to continue to be heavily involved in the kitchen, with head chef Mark Froydenlund still leading the brigade. Meanwhile, Daniel Greenock, who has worked for Marcus Wareing for a number of years, re-joins the team after a year at Eleven Madison Park restaurant, New York, to take the role of restaurant manager.

Wareing started running what was Pétrus for Gordon Ramsay Holdings at the Berkeley in 2003. After parting with Ramsay after 15 years working together, Wareing re-opened the restaurant as Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley in September 2008.
