Albert Roux named the Clink chef ambassador

Albert Roux has been named group chef ambassador at the Clink Charity.

The celebrated chef will support the work of the scheme, which rehabilitates prisoners through hospitality training, across all its restaurant kitchens.

With 10 training projects planned to be up and running by 2017, Roux's appointment is designed to raise the charity's profile in prisoner rehabilitation. He will also take on a hands-on role in training projects.

Roux said: "Having created the Roux Scholarship as a training scheme back in 1984, my brother Michel and I recognised that up and coming chefs needed training and support to build a successful career in the hospitality industry.

"I hold education and mentoring close to my heart and have had the opportunity to train and work with many well-known chefs. Perhaps the next big talent to break into the culinary world will be one of the trainees on the Clink's dedicated training scheme."

The Clink chief executive Chris Moore added: "Having someone with over 60 years' experience in the kitchen as part of our Ambassador Programme is incredible, but to have someone with the passion and dedication to improving standards and the skills of chefs is something that we value hugely. Albert's achievements go without saying and what he can offer the prisoners in training is something you simply can't buy - insight, experience and advice."

Roux joins chefs Cyrus Todiwala, chef ambassador for the Clink at HMP Brixton, and Giorgio Locatelli and Antonio Carluccio OBE, both chef ambassadors for the Clink at HMP High Down.
