Derek Picot to leave Jumeirah Carlton Tower

Derek Picot is stepping down as general manager of the five-AA-star Jumeirah Carlton Tower hotel, London, after 11 years in the role.

He will also relinquish his position as regional vice-president, Europe, of Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts. He will leave the hotel at the end of September, but will continue to consult for the group until April next year.

Picot's decision to leave Jumeirah coincided with the company's decision to move the regional role overseas.

Doris Greif, currently general manager of the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi, has been appointed to the regional vice-president role, to be based in Frankfurt, and the company is looking to recruit a new general manger for the 211-bedroom Jumeirah Carlton Tower in Knightsbridge.

Picot, who joined the company in 2003 from his previous role as regional general manager, Le Meridien Piccadilly London, and oversaw the Carlton Tower's 50th anniversary three years ago, said he was proud of helping to establish the Jumeirah brand in Europe over the past 11 years.

"Alongside the Carlton tower and Lowndes hotels in London, we've opened hotels in Rome, Majorca and Frankfurt, as well as launched the Grosvenor House Apartments by Jumeirah Living in the capital.

"Now is a good time to explore new opportunities and move on," he added.

Gerald Lawless, president and chief executive of Jumeirah Group, said that Picot has been "a great leader" within Jumeirah, supporting the growth and development of hotels in London and throughout Europe.

"A consummate hotelier, he has leveraged his reputation in the luxury hospitality sector to support the Jumeirah brand and build loyalty among the many thousands of guests who have graced the lobbies of the hotels under his supervision. I would like to personally thank him for his many years' service and for the inspiration he has provided to the many colleagues who have had and continue to have the privilege of working with him."
