Second Acciuga restaurant to open in Smithfield

Chef-proprietor Guglielmo Arnulfo is to open a second Acciuga restaurant in London at 62-63 Long Lane, Smithfield.

It follows the success of the first Acciuga (or anchovy), which opened on Kensington High Street in summer 2013 with 70 seats. The menu features mainly Ligurian dishes and includes lasagnette pasta with sausage, chicken liver and cream ragout (£15) and filet of pork with hazelnut sauce (£20).

Arnulfo's second Italian restaurant will take over the remaining 13-year lease from incumbent 30-seat restaurant Chabrot Bistrot des Halles. The property is opposite the site for the new Farringdon CrossRail station, which opens in 2018.

"Smithfield is already one of the go-to destinations for London's gastronomes," said Sally French, a surveyor at Restaurant Property, who advised on the deal. "Acciuga, a favourite of critics, will in particular benefit from its location opposite Farringdon CrossRail station.
Farringdon is set to become a hub in the capital."

Arnulfo, 25, trained as a lawyer and was a professional rugby player before switching to cooking. He trained at the Cook, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Genoa, and also worked under Michelin-starred chefs such as Edoardo Ferrera at Don Carlos, Milan, and Claudio Pasquarelli at Bergeggi near Savona.
