Be wary of techno-overload, says Hoxton Shoreditch GM

Hotels are in danger of pursuing techno-overload, claims Timothy Griffin, general manager, at the Hoxton Shoreditch, London. He was speaking ahead of a debate on the issue at The Caterer Summit on 6-7 November.

"iPad in your bedrooms? Hand-held device to take your restaurant order? Seventeen buttons to adjust the lights? No thanks," said Griffin. "It gets old quickly. On and off - it's all we need."

But he warned that it is crucial to get social media right: "It's not something that should be given to the intern to do. Use it to really talk to your guests and have conversations and get down and dirty."

Griffin will appear on The Caterer Summit panel examining what technology the modern guest demands and what the forward-thinking hotelier is doing to attract them on 7 November.
