Top hotels and restaurants sign up to new Dot London domain name

Radisson Blu Edwardian, Aqua Restaurant Group, and Jumeirah Carlton Tower are just some of the hospitality businesses to have adopted the new "Dot London" domain name.

Restaurants set to use it include Kensington's L'Etranger, Aqua Shard in the Shard, and Hutong in London Bridge, plus the Edwardian Group's Scoff and Banter, and Steak and Lobster.

The new ".london" domain name - issued from global internet body ICANN â€' will allow businesses to link themselves to the capital. Over 46,000 website names have registered for the suffix, which will take the place of any previous ".com" or ".co.uk" addresses. It joins other city-based names including ".paris", ".berlin" and ".nyc".

Skye Gyngell, head chef and proprietor of Spring, which opened on 14 October, said: "Being a new restaurant based in Somerset House's 19th century New Wing, we wanted to further enhance our link with this city by having a Dot London domain name."

Other businesses registered for the name also include ZSL London Zoo, Shakespeare's Globe, the Natural History Museum, and the Museum of London.

Julie Chappell, director of visitlondon.com, said: "With the capital's tourism figures at a record high, this is the perfect time for hotels, restaurants and attractions to heighten their association with the city. Dot London is a fantastic way for companies to stake a claim."

The domain name comes months after ".bar" and ".rest" were announced in July. Restaurants and bars said to have registered for those include Harry's Bar, JoÁ«l Robuchon, Wynn Resorts in the US and the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Geranium in Denmark.
