Jonathan Stapleton made general manager at the Royal Crescent hotel

Jonathan Stapleton has been appointed general manager at the Royal Crescent hotel and spa in Bath.

The 45-bedroom hotel has been relaunched by the Topland Group, having bought it for a rumoured £18m in 2012 from Von Essen administrators, in a bid to re-establish its reputation as a leading five-star hotel.

A Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality and a Master Innholder, Jonathan Stapleton joins the hotel from Thermae Development, where he was general manager. Prior to that he managed multi-million pound refurbishment projects in Singapore, Scotland and the UK.

Stapleton said: "The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa is a truly iconic property. I am excited to join a team of such dedicated service professionals and to further enhancing our reputation worldwide as one of the UK's leading hotels."

In July, Topland acquired eight Hallmark hotels in a £75m deal, taking its portfolio to 30 hotels employing 2,000 people.
