Half of guests will stay in a hotel bar if sport is shown

Almost half of hotel guests will stay in a bar longer if sport is being shown, according to a new survey.

According to a study commissioned by Sky Business, 42% of consumers would stay longer in a hotel bar featuring sport.

It also found that one in three would visit more often if sport were shown, and 30% will stay after watching a match too.

To help hoteliers tap into this market, Sky Business has redesigned its hotel bars package to enable more hoteliers to offer Sky Sports HD and Wi-Fi via the Cloud.

Sky Business deputy managing director Alison Dolan said: "This package allows hotels to take advantage of showing Sky Sports within their bar area, to attract both hotel guests and non-guests alike. Our study showed just how big an impact live sport can have and we want to ensure our hotel customers are able to tap into that."

She added that free Wi-Fi via its Cloud service increases dwell time in bars and helps drive footfall.
